Windows 8 has a new great desktop feature or also known as "Metro UI". It is quite a pain in the neck for someone coming to win 8 for the first time. I have seen the people giving mixed reviews about the new look.

If for some reason you dont like the new theme and want to use the Win 7 look, here is what you need to do....

You need to get an application called as "IObit StartMenu8"

StartMenu8 is specially designed for Window 8. This smart tool brings back both the start button and Windows Start Menu, and offers the option to skip Metro start page, allowing users who only work on desktop to boot to Windows 8 desktop directly. It’s the best start menu replacement for Windows8 yet.

The key benefits of having this is
- More Efficiency and Convenience: StartMenu8 not only brings back the convenient Start Menu to Windows 8, but also allows you to bypass Metro screen on start of Windows 8 and boot to desktop directly.

- Easily Switch between Metro and Desktop Interface: You can easily switch between two modes by pressing and holding the Windows key, depending on your preference.

- Faster Access to Programs and Files: StartMenu8 brings back Start Menu where you can get quicker access to programs, documents and files, control panel and settings.

- Quicker Searching: Unified and instant searching for both desktop and Metro apps decreases the time taken in searching and makes your work more efficient.

- Customizable to Your Needs: You can pin programs to Start Menu and Taskbar for quicker access to your favorite programs. It’s easily customizable to have everything you need at just one click.

- Safe and Secure: IObit StartMenu8 is safe and secure, and is 100% free of malware.

IObit offers it for free download as a freeware http://www.forumswindows8.com/download/s...u-beta.exe

An example:

Long long time ago NPU mailed me an ebook and deleted his sent mail list. Also he lost his copy and requested me to send it back to him. Now how do I dig through all those mails he sent me and find this book considering the problem that neither I nor him remembered the file name.

I type the following in the search bar inside Gmail and VOILA

from:NPU has:attachment filename:pdf

It shows me all the pdf files he has ever sent me. Searching this small number of mails will definitely simplify my job.

Hope it helps

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?
Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?
During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.
f.lux

F.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.
It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.
Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. F.lux will do the rest, automatically.

Quote: The purists out there beat every Angry Birds level on the Chrome version a few hours ago, as the game released yesterday with fanfare at Googles' I/O Conference. But for those who actually have other things to do, like yourselves, Wes Bos, a notable tech entrepreneur and founder of DealPage, has found a neat trick to unlock all the levels in the game. And all it takes is a single line of code.

First of all, the game requires you to have Google's Chrome browser.

Download and install that, and come back here. (Done? Good.)
Now, go to the Chrome Web Store and download Angry Birds.

With the game loaded, copy and paste this code into Chrome's address bar:

Code:

javascript: var i = 0; while (i<=69) { localStorage.setItem('level_star_'+i,'3'); i++; } window.location.reload();

Hit the Enter key, and watch as all 70 levels in the game are open for you to fling around in.

Now, if you ever want to revert the game to its original state, just use this line of code in the same way:

Code:

javascript: var i = 1; while (i<=69) { localStorage.setItem('level_star_'+i,'-1'); i++; } window.location.reload();

Now, if you're interested, here's how the whiz figured it out: "In the talk Rovio did at Google IO, they mentioned they were using HTML5′s LocalStorage. If you open up Web Inspector in chrome, you'll see they are keeping track of your score and stars with localstorage.

Lucky for us, that means we can use setItem() set all 70 levels to 3 and get access to them all." This smarty pants just made plenty of Angry Birds (and Google) fans very, very happy.

And provides a name to the new custom search provider, such as Google (SSL).

Once installed, user can select the Google SSL search provider from the drop down list of the IE search box.

Quote:Many people has more than one Gmail accounts with multiple email addresses to send and receive e-mail messages. Gmail has been providing various convenient method to retrieve and read emails from other mail accounts, such as check mails using POP3 and email forwarding support.

For Gmail users who prefer that the emails stay at their respective Inboxes or mailboxes, while they can seamlessly switch and jump between different Gmail accounts without having to logout and logon to each and every accounts, Gmail has just introduced a new feature which allows Gmail users to delegates and grant access to other Gmail users to the account..

The Gmail account delegation feature effectively allows a Gmail users to manage and access multiple Gmail accounts without logging out and in or manual switching between accounts. In fact, the user just need to grant and delegate access to one single primary Gmail account to allow the primary or master account to access all other Gmail accounts, as a workaround.

In order to use only one single primary Gmail accounts to access, manage, read, send and delete messages on all other Gmail accounts (such as personal, company, work, or professional emails), use the following trick:
Log in to the Gmail accounts which wanted to be accessed from the master account.
Click the Settings link, and select the Accounts and Import tab.
Under ‘Grant access to your account,’ click the Add another account link.

On the pop up window, enter the email address of the person you’d like to access your account (i.e. the email address primary master Gmail account) and click Next Step.

You’ll see a confirmation message. Click Send email to grant access to send confirmation and verification email.

The delegate (email address entered) will receive a verification email explaining that you’ve granted access to them.
After the delegate confirms this request, it may take up to 30 minutes for the verification process to be completed.

Tip: To see if the delegate (primary account) has confirmed access to your account, look at the Accounts tab in Settings.
Repeat the steps for all other Gmail accounts.

Once the setup completed, user can just login to the primary Google account, and then access all other Gmail accounts by clicking the down-arrow next to your email address in the upper-left corner, and select the delegate’s email address from the drop-down menu.

Note that any mail messages sent from main account on behalf of delegated account will have main account’s name listed in addition to the actual account name. For example, the sender will be shown as “Your Name (sent by Delegate)”. In addition, all contacts on the delegated accounts can be accessed by the delegate by clicking the Contacts link, including he To, Cc, or Bcc links in the mail compose window.
