Make Your Old Firefox Extensions Work With Firefox 4

Method 1:

Install the Add-on Compatibility Reporter addon from
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox...-reporter/

Then goto the extension manager or AIO sidebar > click the extension which you want to enable > click enable > restart firefox.

Sometimes you might need to restart firefox after installing the extension and before doing the above step.


Method 2:

1.Type about:config in address bar and press Enter.

2.Now Right-click anywhere, Select New>Boolean, name the new config value extensions.checkCompatibility (extensions.checkCompatibility.4.0 in-case of Firefox 4) and set it to false.

3.Make another new boolean value as above with name extensions.checkUpdateSecurity and set the value to false.

4.Restart Firefox.

about method2
does not it just disables the checking of browser compatibility? right?
how can we use the add ons if they are not really compatible.

I installed 4.0 & it asked showed me the list, saying these addons are not working with current version of firefox, it also asked me if i wanted to auto update, i did & most of add ons are working now.

That's a risk that you gotta take . btw in most of the cases the add-on works fine but the author might have abandoned development / or not bothered to update the version information, so its worth trying to see if they will work in the latest version.

Since i was using a firefox portable version, I just took a backup and enabled all old extensions. But one extension caused some problem due to which firefox did not load , so i restored the backup and enabled all other extensions other than those extensions that i suspected to cause the issue.

I tried the same method2 with FEBE (i got latest version)
but it didn't work
saying this extension is not compatible with this firefox version.

1.Just to confirm: following Boolean lines must be added with false value.

&
extensions.checkUpdateSecurity

2.BTW, anyone tried datafox on FF4? its not working for me.
3.any peculiar reason for using the portable version??

Datafox works fine.
only problem is, it does not have option for display anywhere other than the status bar and there's no status bar in FF4.
solution : regain your status bar by
1. installing status-4-evar add-on
2. activating it by firefox>options>addon bar (if you have not activated menu bar) or by view>toolbars>addon bar (if you have activated menu bar)

is not add-on bar is same as the status bar?? right click on top of ff window & then add-on bar?
