The video of South star Danush singing " Why this Kolaveri Di ", from his upcoming flick has gone viral and how. Within four days of its online release, the quirky song already has a jaw-dropping 6,49,285 views!It also became the most searched and played Youtube Video in India on Saturday. With everyone from across the country playing this catchy song on loop and with over 9,000 likes on the video site and uncountable shares on various networking sites... this song is the next big thing!
The video shows nothing but footage from the recording of the 'making of the song' . But it's the bizarre lyrics of the song that does the magic. The song with the Tamil word, "Kolaveri", which almost translates into "murderous rage", makes for a howlarious listen, complete with its typical kuthu flavor, drum beats, Tamil accent and funny analogies. It starts off with Danush's rap - "Yo boyz, I am singing song... Soup song... Flop song... Why this Kolaveri kolaveri aaa di". Ludicrous lyrics like "cow-u cow-u, holy cow-u..."are even fast finding their way into everyone's status messages on networking sites.
What final year intermediate student Dhatri Bhargav , loves about the song, is the music. She says, "Not only is the sound new, but the lyrics are catchy. On the whole, the song is refreshing to the ear. Also, it helps that Dhanush sang the song.
And no one can get enough of this ear worm. Budding musician Sagar Rayaprolu says that he plays the song on repeat ever since he heard it. "It's a pure, 'from the heart' kind of a song. I'm addicted to it. It's got an easy tune. The usage of familiar instruments and the 'feelings' with which he sings, makes it so awesome. And nothing can beat the lyrics of this song."
Even actor Navdeep admits to being an addict. In fact, he too has the song on loop."The music is so catchy and the lyrics are funny. Also, it's a song that's easy to memorize," he says.
Some like Nihar Kapoor like the song because they relate to the singer and the lyrics. "Dhanush is successful because he looks and behaves like any average Joe. Now, he has come up with this song which has easy lyrics about heart break that people can identify with, accompanied by traditional instruments that makes for easy listening. Plus, every man with girl trouble will get it," he quips.
