Yes, of course, grape variety is very important, not only that the
year of the grape is also very important. Some years the same
variety grape will taste different than others.

The different varieties of grapes are a factor in choosing wine.
Do you go with Chardonnay, or Merlot, or Zinfandel? You have to
pair it with the food you are having, Chardonnay goes well with Steak
and potatoes while a white Zinfandel would go well with seafood.
Indian food goes well with Merlot or a Syrah. Italian food needs
Chianti and Japanese Sushi needs Sake.
